  • Set the cable or band position at shoulder height.
  • Try to maintain your balance during the entire exercise.
  1. Grab the handle with one hand and step back to achieve the desired resistance.
  2. Raise the leg on the opposite side as where you are holding the exercise band handle, so that the leg doing the balancing and the arm doing the pulling are on the same side.
  3. Standing upright and with a tight core, stretch forward, letting your shoulder roll forward.
  4. Then pull back, twisting your torso.
  5. As you twist back, pull the handle back as you would during a standard row.
  6. Return to starting position and repeat.
Contralateral Single Arm Balance Row

Tim's list of benefits for the Ipsilateral Single Arm Balance Row

  • Torso rotation exercises primarily work out your oblique muscle group, which can add power to rotational motion. Athletes in certain sports, such as shot put or golf, may benefit as the exercises improve the strength of their swing. Additionally, stronger abdominal and back muscles take more pressure off the spine.
  • This exercise is a must do if you are trying to move better or feel better.
  • Ipsilateral balance exercises are a hard level difficulty for balance.  If you need something a little easier check out the contralateral row.
  • Because you do each arm separately, you develop both sides of your body evenly.
  • When you twist properly during this exercise you help strengthen and loosen up your lower back, decreasing pain and reducing the risk of future pain.
