Yes there is a right and wrong way to pick junk food. I will show you how to choose healthy junk food options.

I like food as much as the next guy, as a matter of fact I probably like food more than most and consider myself a bit of a foodie.

But even when I’m eating junk food, I make sure to eat healthy junk food.

I don’t necessarily choose foods that are low in calories, but I try to choose foods that have the least amount of toxins, are the most satisfying, and also come with some nutritional benefit.

Dreaded junk food, as you walk down the grocery store aisles it’s everywhere; cookies, crackers, candies, doughnuts, the list goes on and on.

So the next time you have a hankering for some junk food, and you don’t want to necessarily fall off the wellness wagon, follow these tips and pick the healthy junk food while you cheat.

First, try to choose junk foods that contain at least 5 g of fiber per serving. This fiber will not only satisfy you, but it will slow the digestion of carbohydrates, thus decreasing the rate of insulin release.

Next, try to choose foods that are organic or at least non-GMOs. There is no need to put senseless toxins in our body when we are indulging.

Choose foods that use sugar alcohols as a sweetener, sugar alcohols are neither sugar nor are they alcohol, they are actually a prebiotic fiber that the bacteria living in our gut thrives upon. It is sweet and highly beneficial. Examples of sugar alcohols are erythritol and xylitol.

When going for chocolate, raw is always best, but if you cannot find raw chocolate, you can either make your own, or choose an organic fair trade chocolate. If the company is ethically treating its employees and sources, they are probably going to be producing a quality product.

Ice cream is now becoming a good healthy junk food option. Companies like enlightened are creating ice cream out of being, fiber, sugar alcohols, and other ingredients that add fiber and nutrients into our bodies.

So the next time you’re looking for junk food, try choosing some healthy junk food options, and you will feel much better the next day.
